| 2009 NYS Geospatial Summit - Save the Date! |
Don't
miss this chance to meet and network with geospatial
professionals and industry leaders at the historic
Proctor’s Theatre in downtown Schenectady, NY. The
Summit is a one-day, all-plenary event with a sequence
of keynote-level speakers discussing the broad context
for GIS and the forces that are shaping the present
and future of our discipline. Last year’s summit was
another sell-out, so don’t miss out!
The 2009 NYS GeoSpatial Summit will
be held on May 20, from 8:00am - 5:00pm at
the newly renovated Proctor’s Theatre, 432 State Street,
Schenectady, NY. The event is co-sponsored by the NYS
GIS Association and the NYS Office of Cyber Security & Critical
Infrastructure Coordination and is targeted to those
who want to look beyond technical issues and hear what’s
really shaping geospatial applications in New York
and beyond.
The Pre-Summit evening reception continues
to be one of the highlights of the Summit event. This
years evening reception will be held on the Proctor’s
Main Stage on May 19, details to follow. Don’t
miss this chance for great food and conversation. Mingle
with our speakers and other Summit attendees while
enjoying fine hors d’oeuvres and musical accompaniment.
Breakfast, morning and afternoon breaks, and lunch,
are included so you can stay on-site and network with
sponsors, the speakers, and your peers.
Information on Summit topics, featured speakers, sponsorship,
and how to register will be posted as it becomes available.

| Surveying Legislation |
The New York State GIS Association
has been tracking the legislation as proposed by the
New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors
(NYSAPLS).
We believe the proposed legislation may have significant
negative impact on the ability of the geospatial community
to do GIS. As a result, we have brought this to the
attention of the GIS community as well as the sponsors
of the legislation.
As was agreed in our general meeting of May 20, 2008,
we are providing you a summary
of our actions to date,
copies of the letters sent
to the legislators, talking
points, and a sample
letter
which members of the geospatial community may use to
make their position known to their State Senator and
Assemblymember. As more relevant material is created,
we will notify you and add it to this page.
It is our desire to keep you informed on this important
issue and we encourage you to take appropriate actions
to make your position known to your legislators.
As the legislative session is winding down rapidly,
we urge you to act now!
The NYS GIS Association has been tracking
the legislation (S04396
/ A01927)
as proposed by the New York State Association of Professional
Land Surveyors (NYSAPLS).
Thank you for your support. |

Focusing on geospatial information
technologies (GIT), GIT Ahead provides
teacher professional development, educational software
development, and career awareness and preparation experiences
for high school students in schools throughout the
Finger Lakes region. The project aims to help high
school students see geospatial technologies as pathways
to relevant, exciting, and high-demand careers, and
to create higher education pathways for students who
might not otherwise pursue such goals.
