Legislative
Committee
the current Survey Legislation.
Mission:
The mission of the Legislative Committee is to provide information
to members of the NYS GIS Association concerning legislative
initiatives that may impact the NYS geospatial community so that
members may individually take action to influence the outcomes
of those initiatives. The proactive monitoring and review
of legislative initiatives will support the growth, visibility,
and relevancy of the geospatial profession in New York State.
Vision:
The Legislative Committee will distribute information in a timely
and factual manner which promotes broad discussion across the
membership consistent with the By-Laws of the Association.
Members are encouraged to comment on and debate the potential
impacts of specific legislative initiatives as they relate to
the professional activities, viability, and growth of the geospatial
discipline and related disciplines across the state. Legislative
initiatives are understood to include actions of the New York
State and U.S. legislatures that result in laws, rules, and regulations
or powers conveyed to others to create rules and regulations;
by such means as bills, legislative proposals, public comment,
hearings, expert testimony, and all other opportunities for citizen
involvement regarding the legislative process.
Objectives:
- Maintain an active Legislative Committee during the annual
NYS legislation session
- Build capacity among with the Committee to monitor legislation
initiatives on a monthly basis while the NYS Legislature is
in session.
- Develop a plan to distribute legislative briefs and reviews
for comment by all Association Regional User Groups
- Develop a membership legislative priority agenda by the end
of each calendar year
- Communicate legislative issues believed to have impacts
on the geospatial discipline to other related professional
groups
